Frequently Asked Questions

Orders.. how detailed can you get? Sunroof, spoiler, BBS alloys, red over green?

It is nice to have an exact order but unfortunately the more exact the order is the lesser the likelihood it is that you will ever own it. Try to convince your customer to be open-minded on what specs. they can expect to get on their dream car. Otherwise that is what it will remain, a dream car.

Hows my order going? The rules of human nature.

We understand that timely updates are essential, and we strive to give every order the attention it deserves. However, frequent communication plays a significant role in ensuring smooth coordination. Regular emails or calls help us prioritize your order and reduce the risk of delays or miscommunication.

To avoid any potential issues, such as purchasing a vehicle that no longer meets your requirements due to changes on your end, we kindly request that you provide updates every few days. Additionally, please inform us promptly if your order requirement has changed to avoid us checking cars that are not required, so we can adjust accordingly.

Your cooperation in maintaining clear and consistent communication is greatly appreciated, as it enables us to serve you more effectively.

Only grade 4 cars please.. What is the real story of grading.

Auction grading varies greatly from auction to auction. An auction grade can differ significantly, such as a car graded as "R Grade" at one auction being graded as a "Grade 4" at another. We understand the importance of auction grading and, based on our experience, can offer insight into whether we agree with the given grade.

Auction grading experience is developed over years of hands-on inspections at individual auctions. We typically attend auctions daily and can provide insights based on direct inspections. If the auction is at a location we do not regularly visit, we can still provide information based on previous purchases and share whether we believe the grading to be accurate or not.

For example, there are many brokers in Japan who buy and resell cars quickly. They purchased a car at a Toyota auction that was graded R, then resold it at another auction three days later, where it was graded 4.5. This highlights the grading differences between auctions—some are stricter, while others are more lenient. in this case the broker wins as he sells at higher price. it is very important to check the sold history data to avoid issues like this.

If you are looking for a perfect car, specify "perfect." If you don’t mind a car with up to two panels of paintwork, mention "up to 2 panels of paint." This clarity helps ensure expectations are met.

Deposits. payments.. Are you a Genuine Buyer ?

For first-time dealings with IAS, especially for those looking to purchase a high-value vehicle, we understand that it can feel like a significant leap of faith. However, as a business, we must ensure that we are engaging with serious buyers. A deposit demonstrates your genuine intent and goes a long way in establishing trust. Deposits are fully refundable if we have not incurred costs in sourcing a vehicle for you. However, bank fees for sending or receiving funds are non-refundable; these are typically small amounts.

When it comes to payments, we are required to settle auction invoices within five days. However, we usually pay the auction the next day to maintain good standing with auction houses, in addition to a 10% consumption tax, auction fees, and transport fees, as vehicles must typically be moved within two days after the auction to avoid penalties. For higher-value vehicles, a deposit often falls short of covering these initial costs. Therefore, prompt and complete payments are highly appreciated and essential for ensuring a smooth transaction. Payment terms are typically set at seven business days to keep our operations running smoothly for everyone involved.

While we initially offered flexible payment terms, experience has taught us that prioritizing prompt payments enables us to better serve genuine buyers who are ready to proceed. To those who prefer extended payment arrangements, we apologize for any inconvenience, but our focus must remain on efficiently meeting the needs of our committed clients. Slow payments can cause disruptions, as running out of funds to pay auction houses may force us to suspend business operations. Unfortunately, we do not operate with unlimited resources. We trust that all our clients understand the importance of balancing accounts to maintain successful businesses, and we appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

  3. Shipping is completed within 30 days of your vehicle arriving at the port yard. We never delay any shipment unless payment has been delayed.
  4. Documentation is emailed, providing the shipping date for submitting ISF for the USA if required. Other countries may have different submission requirements.

Fees and IAS Charges FOB CIF etc

FOB Charges

  • Cars under 500,000 yen: FOB charges start from 80,000 yen.
  • Cars over 1 million yen to 2 million yen: Average FOB, including transport, is around 120,000 yen.
  • Cars from 2 million yen to 3 million yen: Average FOB, including transport, is 120,000–150,000 yen.
  • Cars over 3 million yen: Subject to a 4.5% fee based on the purchase price, plus transport costs, with no additional FOB fee.
  • Cars over 6 million yen: Pricing must be negotiated as the tax bill on these cars is quite high for us to cover.

Due to the rising costs Japan has experienced since 2020, FOB fees may vary depending on the vehicle's cost and the distance from the auction location to the port yard for transport. In some cases, the FOB fee and transport fee may be separated but are usually combined into one total.

Please remember, we pay a 10% tax that we do not charge you directly. We only recover this tax 2 to 4 times a year, which puts our accounts in arrears until the refund is processed. This can result in it taking up to six months before we see any profit to reinvest back into our business account and complete the process again.

Problems and or misunderstandings

IAS is always proactive in resolving any problems that may arise. Our business model is not to avoid or misguide. If you encounter any issues, we are committed to resolving them in a timely and efficient manner. In return, we kindly ask for the same from you—to respond promptly and effectively.

Speedy resolutions and negotiations are in everyone’s best interest to move forward. From our experience, the best people in business who achieve great results are those who can address and resolve problems effectively. Problem-solving is a part of life; it’s always better to tackle and resolve issues rather than bury them, as unresolved issues can eventually become a burden and limit your success.

Are these all the issues and questions you have?? Of course not.
